EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO GIVE.
We all have something to give.
People often say they have nothing to give. Giving is not limited to monetary value “Giving is Giving.”
I was reading Methil Renuka @forbesAfrica editor’s note on compassion. She emphasized the need to show compassion as often as we can. Her note got me thinking; how can one show compassion in these hard economic times, where the spirit of survival is in full gear and the trend now is “hustling” and “self focus?”
Let me shift the question to a yet simpler one; why do great Leaders show the most compassion? Is it because they have much to give? Well true, but I believe it goes beyond their capacity to give. Compassion is a virtue developed from an early age and at the small stage of any business. I would say that these individuals and businesses just have a more wholistic definition of Success. To them, life is not all about “Surviving” it is about impact and empowerment. These know so well that to get more you need to spend more. They understand the strength that generosity gives.
Regardless of who you are or the size of your business, you have something to give. You can practice the culture of compassion. Do whatever that’s in your capacity to contribute generously to your community and society at large. Be deliberate about your compassion. It could be as simple as
1. An environmental cleaning outreach.
2. Helping the elderly and children cross roads.
3. Volunteering with an NGO.
4. Lending a helping hand
The list is endless.
Like I always say “A person who cannot give when he doesn’t have much will find it difficult to give when he has much more.”
In these hard economic times, compassion is what will keep nations and capital alive. It is imperative for individuals and businesses to comprehend poverty and think of not just self or profits but of others and giving back.
